SAMANILAI · Snoring & sleep apnoea clinic
Snoring and sleep apnoea clinic
Loud snoring with pauses in breathing, choking at night or heavy daytime sleepiness can mean obstructive sleep apnoea. The clinic examines the nose and throat for the site of blockage and arranges a sleep study to measure how your breathing behaves during sleep.
In short
When should you see a specialist?
Obstructive sleep apnoea is repeated narrowing or closure of the upper airway during sleep. It is confirmed with a sleep study. Treatment may include weight and sleep changes, CPAP, or surgery on the nose, palate or tonsils in selected people.

FAQ
Common questions
What is the difference between a Level 2 and Level 3 sleep study?
A Level 2 polysomnography records sleep stages along with breathing, oxygen and heart rhythm. A Level 3 cardiorespiratory study records breathing, oxygen and heart rate without sleep staging. The doctor chooses the right one for you.
Is snoring harmful?
Simple snoring is mostly a social problem, but snoring with pauses in breathing can be sleep apnoea, which is linked with high blood pressure, heart disease and road accidents from sleepiness. A sleep study tells the two apart.
Will surgery stop my snoring?
Surgery helps when there is a clear site of blockage, such as a bent septum, large turbinates or enlarged tonsils. It is chosen after examination and a sleep study, not for everyone.
